barefoot education

This week only, Barefoot College is competing for an award from the Times of India. Your vote can help us win!
The Times of India Social Impact Award recognizes “several enlightened people and groups that have taken up the challenge to impart some degree of education to the people, whether through adult literacy programs or taking education to the doorsteps in remote villages or neglected urban slums.”

The Barefoot College education programme fosters childhood development in rural areas, and literacy is only a part of it. The College is a radical departure from the traditional concept of ‘school’ because it trades formal classroom teaching for a hands-on, learning-by-doing process of gaining knowledge and skills.

We’ve created and support Solar Night Schools, Balwadis (Creches Schools), Bridge Schools and Day Schools. In total, the College’s education programmes have graduated over 75,000 students since it began in 1975.
