Day School

The Day School programme was established in 1988 as an experimental primary school on Barefoot’s campus in Tilonia. Even though the teachers follow the same curriculum as a government primary school, the methodology and teaching technique for these unique schools is based on the Barefoot approach and taught mostly by night school teachers. A 2.5 kilowatt solar power plant has been installed to ensure that continuous power meets all the electrical needs of the school. The first batch of children who completed their class 8 during 2010 scored an average of 82% on their examinations. Presently, a team of 15 Barefoot teachers—including four women—are teaching 452 children in Shiksha Niketan, 203 of whom are girls.
