A PHOTO-EXHIBITION OF WORK ON RAIN WATER HARVESTING
Barefoot Architects have constructed 450 or more rainwater harvesting structures in rural schools of Rajasthan which collect 28 million litres of rainwater from the rooftops of its buildings annually. The rainwater harvesting structures have been constructed with 10% of its costs contributed by communities.

This has increased attendance of children, especially girls, generated employment for the poorest of the poor in villages while 250 persons have been trained for its installation and maintenance.

HRH expressed astonishment that for the cost of one Drilling rig drilling bores for hand pumps it is possible to collect 12 million litres of rain water in 200 schools and give 1000 people jobs during the drought for 4 months.

It is possible to collect 100,000 litres of rain water from the roof tops of schools in underground water proofed tanks in deserts or the mountains at the total cost of 5,000 British Pounds.

It is more environmentally sound and cost effective to collect rainwater than exploit ground water if a long term sustainable solution has to be found.
