BASKET WEAVING
Rural communities especially those who are socio-economically marginalised have
been able to continue carrying on the traditional skill of basket weaving. Local
fairs and festivals provide a captive market and Barefoot College has been making
efforts to enable people like Suja Ram and others to be able to get gainful
employment by weaving baskets. They are able to make 2-3 baskets every day.
Several thousand families survive marketing these household items.
